These 3 old, german, stoneware beersteins are selling as one lot! They are all in very good to excellent condition with the exception of a little chip on the top of the older stein (see chip on the middel stein, upper rim). Stein #1 (above middle): cobalt blue and natural coloring, relief stein. This stein is most likely from before the post-war occupation period. Motto on unlidded, small tankard: "Bleib junge das Hertz...bei Weib und Scherj"? (trans. Through Woman and Humor the Heart Stays Young) Stein #2 (above right): Most likely a Gertz, traditional Jager motif, with the double-entendre on the "fox hunt" theme, edelweiss along the side and lustreware glazing above and below the pictorial decorations. Motto: "Kuhler Trunk....Und Heisse Jägd" (trans. a Cool Draught... And a Passionate Hunt) Stein #3 (above left): Unusual relief stein with a baverian scene of three adults in traditional bavarian dress. I can not find this manufacturer's mark and will appreciate email from anyone willing to share what they know. The fine quality pewter lid has a faint, shield-like emblem incise within. Motto: "Früh gefreit....nie bereut" (trans. One never regrets early protection) |
